About the Artist

Chiaroscuro is an excellent source for museum quality Contemporary Aboriginal Art from Australia. For our large survey shows in 2010, 2012 and 2014, we have imported over 100 artworks and placed these pieces in prominent private and public collections in the United States. Working in partnership with Vivien Anderson Gallery in Melbourne, we have access to the highest quality work available from a variety of artists, direct from the Australian Art Centers, with the correct provenance. Our current inventory, which is pictured below, consists of highlights from our past exhibitions. Furthermore, we are expecting to import new works for our upcoming show in the summer of 2014, so please check back often, or contact us to be on the Contemporary Aboriginal Art mailing list.

Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art occupies a unique place in the diverse landscape of Santa Fe galleries by focusing on contemporary abstraction from locally and nationally recognized artists. Within this group of forty represented artists, the largest subgroup includes work by contemporary Native American artists. These Native artists, mostly from the surrounding New Mexico pueblos, often draw from traditional forms and themes using a contemporary visual vocabulary. This new vocabulary is grounded in cultural perspectives, but expresses itself through the lens of modern life and the evolving contemporary identity of Native American artists.

As a gallery at the center of this contemporary Native dialog, Chiaroscuro becomes a natural choice to introduce and present Australian Contemporary Indigenous Art to our regional and national audience. Chiaroscuro is proud to partner with Vivien Anderson Galleries to help globally expand the market for contemporary indigenous artworks, and to introduce Santa Fe to these accomplished Aboriginal artists.
